Évora
If we saw some things in north and center we decided to go also to the east. Hearing only good recommendations from Peter, my boss, we decided that it worth a visit.
Diana's Temple. Yes, This is the name! :) ... here are some ruins from the Romans and the Portuguese know how to advertise them.
The truth is that the city didn't looked extraordinary to me, just similar with the other cities in Portugal, maybe a little bit chill out... I thought that until we discovered something between "surprising", "freeky", "macabre" and "grotesque"... I can't find a single word to describe what I felt when I entered there...
It's executed in manuelin style, like many other constructions from here. What is surprising is the material used for that, which is not stone, not bricks, neither wood...
It's called "The Chappel of Bones" and it's build from more than 5000 human rests! It is says that 3 monks part a religious order from Galitia arrived in Évora to spread the faith and they built this scary chapel.
It seems like some people understand in a particular way to be closer with Divinity...
Just try to imagine how is to enter into a grave like this hearing a scary symphonic melody, according with the view...
Finally, after several minutes of staying in the grave-chapel we got out where I managed to calm down and get out from the shock. There were in the garden some free peacocks which relaxed me a little bit...
We had in plan to visit Portalegre and Marvão village but the bus didn't show up so we had to ask our money back and return Lisbon. It can happen in Portugal also...
