Alcobaça

The name of the place comes from 2 river that cross it, Rio Alcoa and Rio Baça.

Interested things at Alcobaça? It may be some... :) First market of this type I saw here! Seems familiar, right? :)

The cookies and the monastery. About the cookies I can swear that I ate the most delicious "pastel de nata" and the monastery is the biggest in cisternician style in Portugal.

Here are buried some kings from the 14th century. Also the most famous Portuguese love story between the Portuguese prince, Dom Pedro and Inês, a Castilian princess. She was murdered by the order of Pedro's father to stop their marriage, the Castilians being the traditional enemy of Portuguese. He wanted to be buried face to face with his love, so the first thing that he will se when the Judgment Day will come will be her. Every year in Alcobaça there is a day when everybody celebrates this love story.

Inside the monastery is a big space and very nice. It would be even more beautiful if they will restore the monastery...

There is also a room with sculptures executed by the priests, representing the kings of Portugal and there are represented with "azulejos" scene from Portugal's history.

Oh!!!! So... if I begun with a curiosity, I will finish this post also in the agricultural domain: we saw something that kept our attention :D An old man waited his wife with a tractor at the bus stop and when she came he putted her in the back of the tractor on a chair... nice, huh? :) (the old lady is hard visible in the back)
